Yesterday, we stepped into a world of ribbons, ruffles, and tiny teacups, an afternoon tailor-made for memory-making. Emma and her cousin Maggie Jo were the guests of honor as we joined Crystal and Bebe for a girls' day out, destination: the American Girl store.
Inside, we took our time. Every aisle was its own wonderland. Doll salons with tiny hair dryers, glittery ballet sets, volleyball uniforms, bunk beds, and camping gear, we admired it all. Emma chose a scooter-with-sidecar and Glam Pink Cowgirl Outfit, while Maggie Jo matched the scooter but added a pint-sized Chihuahua pup (Barker Posey) to the mix. Meanwhile, I couldn’t help but linger at that tiny bakery setup, picturing myself behind the counter in an apron, serving up doll-sized pies like it was Sunday at Grandma’s. Too old, maybe, but there was something about it that stirred that little girl tucked inside me, the one who used to dream up tea parties and sugar cookies with hearts full of make-believe.

Just before we wrapped up our spree, we spotted Bebe at the checkout counter, calm, composed, and standing behind two boxes roughly the size of a dorm fridge. Inside? Two scooters, two ecstatic girls, and one very epic memory in the making. I casually stood by, side-eyeing every parent in line like, “Yes, yes, I realize what this looks like. No, I don’t live at the store.” It was one of those moments where you’re smiling on the outside and low-key blinking SOS in Morse code behind your lashes. But Bebe handled it like a seasoned pro, card swiped, boxes rolling, and magic secured. Bebe's got it all handled!
Once the bags were filled, we paused for a photo, a handful of shopping bags already in tow and three bright smiles to match. That entrance, felt like a doorway to delight. We headed to the tea party and that’s where the real magic happened.
We were ushered into a pink-themed dining space adorned with floral walls and matching teacups. Each place setting had its own white teapot, a champagne flute, and a napkin tied with a pink ribbon. Even the dolls had their seats at the table, perched beside their little mamas like royalty at afternoon tea.

“Sparkling Grape” was served first, and we toasted: to cousins, community, and cherished moments shared.
Course one: warm cinnamon buns with just the right swirl.
Then came the showstopper, a towering tray stacked with treats:
Velvet cake slices, rich brownies, lemon bars.
Turkey and cucumber sandwiches, dainty quiches, pigs in a blanket.
Yogurt parfaits, blueberry muffins, and chocolate buttercream squares.
Every bite felt like part of the story. The girls chatted with their dolls beside them, teacups in hand and smiles that belonged in a picture frame. The attention to detail, the red ribboned napkins, personal teapots, doll-sized place settings gave everything a sense of gentle celebration.

By the time we stepped back into the sunlight, those shopping bags were brimming, but our hearts were what carried the real weight.
And though the spotlight was on the girls, you might not catch it in the pictures, both Crystal and I walked out with our own little surprise tucked in hand, a sweet treat from Bebe that made us feel just as special.
These girls may have rolled out with scooters and sparkle, but more importantly, they left with a memory stitched full of laughter, love, and knowing deep down they’re truly blessed.
Love always,
